3 YEARS!!!!

Well, I must say I had a wonderful weekend!! Chris and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on June 24th and took a trip to the beach for 3 days... alone!!! We had a such a wonderful time together. We arrived on Thursday night and, after getting ready, headed to eat at P.F. Changs (one of my new favorite restaurants). Afterwards we wanted to see Transformers 2 at the Rave theater in Destin Commons but it was sold out. We ended up seeing The Hangover instead... and I was NOT disappointed!! It was absolutely hilarious!!! For those of you who haven't seen it yet, make sure you do!! The language and content is a little harsh but the plot is the funniest I have ever seen!
On to Friday... we laid out ALL DAY LONG on the beach! It was so nice to relax and not have anywhere to be. I must admit we got a little sunburnt but thankfully it turned to tan the next day. Friday night we ate at Poppy's in Baytowne and then tried to make the movies to see Transformers 2 again... and once again they were sold out! We just decided to buy tickets for Sunday matinee so we could definitely see it before we left!

Saturday was my favorite day!!! We had breakfast and headed to Grayton beach where we rented bikes at Yellowfin. We took the bikes to Seaside where we walked around the shops, took some cool pictures, had lunch, and took a dip in the ocean. We then headed to Seagrove and Rosemary Beach before returning back to Grayton Beach. It was such a nice and relaxing day! I told Chris I felt like nomads just wandering around with no where to go! But you know what they say... not all those who wander are lost! Saturday night we headed to the Red Bar for dinner and then decided to try Bud and Alley's for a little live entertainment. I had a little too much to drink that night and ended up putting on quite a show dancing in the car on the way home (so Chris tells me). Sunday morning I had a hard time getting up...or out of the bathroom. It took me until 12 to really come out of the funk. We did a little shopping at the outlets and finally made it to see Transformers 2 before heading home!

I have to say, we didn't go on some grand or elaborate vacation but it was such a nice and relaxing weekend. I don't guess you need anything fancy when you just enjoy each other's company as much as we do!

I want to contribute too...

I really didn't have much to report today but I thought I would get used to the idea of blogging every once in a while. I am trying to build a small business from home by painting and selling artwork for children's rooms. I put my paintings on facebook and have gotten a pretty good response from everyone. I have three orders so far and hoping to get more! Maybe everyone will share my work with their friends! Since we have decided to upgrade from the "Green Monster" (the green Explorer) to a 2007 White Tahoe, I felt the need to contribute in some fashion to the family income. I know we can handle the payments but it's just nice to say I contribute in some way. Let's not discount the fact that I am Mommy all day... but it always help to have a little financial contribution as well. I would imagine most stay at home Moms feel that way every now and then. We know we have a hand in everything that gets done around the house and for our children but yet we still feel the need to do more, to make ourself "useful" in the financial area of our home. I feel the need even more because I have a college degree and have completely abandoned the idea of USING it!!!! =) I just never imagined I would be staying home with my child. However, for now, I can use my talents to bring in a small amount of extra cash.

Speaking of the "Green Monster"... we are headed to Andalusia this afternoon to hand it over to my Mom. She is purchasing the Explorer and giving up her mini van. I have to say that the mini van she had was an accident waiting to happen. So, I can look at this exchange two ways: we are helping out a family member or it was just a good excuse for me to get the vehicle I've wanted for a LONG time! Either way, Life is Good!!

My First Blog

Hey everyone!!

This will be my first blog ever! I can't believe I have never gotten into it before but now seemed as good a time as any! Let me tell you a little about my family!

My name is Melissa and I am married to the most wonderful man ever, Chris! I am a full time stay at home mom and Chris works full time for and is a Major in the Alabama National Guard as a Task Force Commander in Recruiting. We live in Prattville, AL. We have one son, Brooks, who will be two on July 24th. We have two dogs: a cocker spaniel named Whiskey (7 years old) and a chocolate lab named Reese (15 weeks old). We are very active and love to workout, swim, run, bike, and travel. Our favorite spot to visit is definitely the beach and we go as many times during the year as we can! We also enjoy visiting Lake Martin and spending time with friends and family there.

I am from Andalusia and graduated Andalusia High School and then went on to attend Troy University where I majored in Criminal Justice/Pre-Law, but as you can tell I am not currently using that degree =) I am a former pageant girl and am still one at heart! I love to scrapbook, paint, practice with photography, workout, and spend time with my family! I love to paint children's decor and am thinking of creating a ebay business to sell my paintings.
Chris is from Troy, AL and graduated from Charles Henderson High School and then went on to attend to Troy University. He has been in the Alabama National Guard for 21 years! I am SO proud of my soldier!!! He loves to do bike, run, workout, and anything else outside! He has a passion for baseball and has already instilled that passion in Brooks! Chris also loves to read and has WAY too many books!!

We both are very big family people and love being with and around our families! Our faith means everything to us and we are both born again Christians and believe that God is our rock and our strengh, without Him we are nothing!! We are members of Frazer UMC in Montgomery where we are active in the Faithful Families Sunday School class and I sing in the Chi Rho Contemporary Choir.

I am really excited about beginning my blog... Look for much more to come!!!
